LaborFest was established in 1994 to institutionalize the history and culture of working people in an annual labor cultural, film and arts festival. Every year they put together a very interesting schedule of events.
The last two years I joined Laborfest for the Building Bridges and Labor Maritime History Boat Tour, a slow speed evening cruise on a Blue and Gold Fleet Ferry and an opportunity to get a close up look at the massive construction project of the eastern span of the San Francisco Bay Bridge.
The organizers wanted to create a way to highlight the skills of the ironworkers, operators, carpenters, laborers, electricians and maritime workers who are building this monument are creating a vital link and beautiful artifact of the Bay Area. It really is awe inspiring to get a close up look of the Bay Bridge
Here is a collection of photos taken in 2010 and 2011.
